The Dos and Don’ts of microblading your eyebrows

Regardless of whether you like them perfectly arched or feathered and full, eyebrows are one feature that has the power to frame and transform your face.

Although there is a number of different makeup tricks to help you achieve your desired look, there is now another option that delivers semi-permanent results, with minimal upkeep and grooming required.

Introducing Microblading – this is an embroidery of small, precise strokes that mimics the effect of real hairs, and uses a special microblading pen/ blade to individually create the individual strokes. Unsurprisingly, the techniques unparalleled natural finish has made its popularity skyrocket in recent months.

El Truchan @ Perfect Definition is one of Nouveau Contour trainers and a Semi Permanent Makeup artist. In this article she shares her expertise and advice on how to make the most out of your microblading treatment.

El Truchan’s top tips for Microblading

Do your research before committing to a company or a technician.

Check as many work examples as possible. 4 or 5 aren’t enough. They could be copied from other people's websites so make sure the technician really did them.

Check the photos for the type of hair strokes. Do they look natural or like a fence post? Remember all of your eyebrow hairs don't go upwards so they shouldn't be tattooed that way either.

Check the previous clients reviews. Not the ones about nails, waxing or facials... read the ones specifically about the microblading or permanent makeup!

...Groupon... there is a reason it's cheap. You can refer to my article on this topic here.

Prep yourself before your appointment

Make sure you don't consume alcohol or painkillers at least 24h before your procedure. Give your technician a heads up on any medical conditions, even those that might seem completely unrelated, and if you are pregnant or nursing - you are NOT allowed to have a treatment.

Speak to your technician about any questions or concerns

You should always have a consultation prior to your appointment. It's not just an eyebrow tint; you will be wearing the result for the next 1-3 years. So make sure you discuss your desired outcome with the technician.

Don't be unrealistic

Your eyebrows are sisters, not twins. They will never be identical twins.

Both sides of our faces are different from each other and eyebrows need to work with all your features. A good tech will be able to design them for you prior to the treatment so you know what shape to expect.

A good tech will also work with you on achieving the best result for you, but if you are insisting on having just one skinny line or a gigantic set of caterpillars or a shape that is simply "not human" then a good tech will refuse your treatment. So be realistic and do your research before you book your appointment.
