Perhaps your eyebrows never quite grew back after years of plucking. Maybe the tails have become thinner, or you find yourself filling in the same gaps every morning. Sometimes, you like your eyebrows as they are. You just wish there was a little more of them.

What is Microblading?

​

Microblading is a form of permanent makeup, often referred to as semi-permanent makeup, in which pigment is placed into the skin to recreate the appearance of individual eyebrow hairs.

A handheld tool with very fine needles, known as a microblade, is used to create each hairstroke. These strokes build the appearance of fuller eyebrows, filling sparse areas or restoring missing parts of the brow.

You may come across descriptions such as 3D Hairstrokes, Realism, Hyper Realism, Ultra Realism or Eyebrow Embroidery. These names describe the hairstroke effect and the style of the finished eyebrows.

Microblading and Nanoblading

 

Microblading and nanoblading both focus on creating fine, individual hairstrokes that resemble natural eyebrow hair.

At Perfect Definition, we look closely at the direction and pattern of your existing hairs when designing your brows. The placement of each stroke helps create fullness and definition while keeping the result natural-looking.

For some clients, this means adding a little density through the brow or rebuilding a thinning tail. For others, it means creating a more complete eyebrow shape where very little natural hair remains.

Who is a Suitable Candidate for Microblading?

 

We will provide preparation instructions before your visit so you know what to avoid and when.

Your existing preparation guidance includes avoiding alcohol for 48 hours and caffeine for four hours before your appointment. You should also avoid sunbathing and tanning for at least two weeks beforehand, and leave your brows unplucked and unwaxed for the two days before treatment.

Let us know about any recent facials, chemical peels or active skincare products you use around your eyebrows, including retinol and exfoliating acids. We will explain the appropriate pause before treatment.

If you take prescribed medication or use a prescribed skin treatment, discuss this with us in advance. Do not stop or change it without advice from your prescribing clinician.

 

Unfortunately, our treatment may not be right for you if you:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding

• Suffering from certain medical conditions

• Have any bleeding disorders

• Use blood-thinning medications

• Have recently had Botox injections or fillers near the treatment area

• Have viral infections or diseases

• Have Rosacea, Psoriasis, or skin irritations near the treatment area

 

Preparation for Microblading

​

Before you undergo eyebrow microblading treatment, here are some things you should do:

• Avoid alcohol 48h before your procedure

• Avoid caffeine 4h before your visit

• Avoid chemical peels or any facials at least 6 weeks before the treatment

• Skip sunbathing and tanning sessions at least 14 days before the appointment

• Avoid waxing or plucking eyebrows within 2 days beforehand

• Discontinue the use of vitamin A (Retinol), AHA, BHA, Acid, Vitamin C, and steroid topical treatments for 6 weeks before the treatment

• Stop taking blood thinners ideally a week before the procedure (please do discuss this with your doctor)

 

 

What to Expect During the Microblading Procedure

The actual microblading treatment consists of several steps. Here's what to expect:

​

Step 1: Preparation

On the day of the procedure, you can voice out any questions or concerns you have with your Permanent Makeup Artist and voice any questions or concerns. The Permanent Makeup Artist will also explain the microblading procedure and the options, including microblading, colour and style. Also, the artist will remove the stray hair if necessary and clean your skin.

Step 2: Numbing

Before the procedure starts, the Permanent Makeup Artist will cover your brow area using a topical numbing ointment. This can help reduce discomfort during the procedure

​

Step 3: Measuring, Mapping, Design

​

Your makeup artist will measure certain features of your brow area and design the brow shape, taking into account your face shape. They’ll show you a pre-draw of what your brows will look like after the treatment. You will work with your technician to assure you are both happy with the shape.

​

Step 4: Blading Process

Your Permanent Makeup Artist will create finely shaped strokes through the skin using a microblade and then cover them with a customized colour pigment. For better retention, they can add another layer of pigment. Depending on your skin, you can get more than two passes. The procedure visit can take up to 2 hours; the actual treatment takes about 30 minutes.

Step 4: Recovery

After the procedure, you may feel a soreness in the brow area. You may also experience mild swelling and redness although very unlikely unless your skin is very sensitive. The Permanent Makeup Artist will give you aftercare instructions. Some of the treatments post care include:

• Application of the healing balm / moisturising ointment application

• Avoid exposing your brows to too water for 12 days

• Avoid putting makeup on the brow area while it is healing

• Don’t pick at the scabs

• Avoid tanning or contact with direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks

• Avoid using chemical peels or facial scrubs near the brows for at least 6 weeks

• Avoid heavy sweating for at least 9 days, but you can do other forms of exercises.

 

How Long Will Your Microblading Last?

 

Your fuller eyebrows can last for about 1-3 years but annual Colour Boost Maintenance visits are recommended to maintain the same colour intensity. Some things that can affect the longevity of your microbladed eyebrows include:

 

• Aftercare Routine: How you take care of your skin during recovery

• Skincare Routine: Some cosmetic products speed up the fading

• Skin Type: If you have dry skin, your brows can last longer

• Touch Ups: Regular appointments can improve longevity of the results
