Did you know there are over 2.7 million #microbladingeyebrows hashtags?

This is a testament that most people want the perfect eyebrows. Having well-shaped, full eyebrows can add a lot of charm to your face. But while full eyebrows are one of the biggest beauty trends right now, not everyone is blessed with perfectly shaped hair stroke eyebrows. What’s more, practices like tweezing may also be thinning your brows.

Luckily, you can still get the brows you desire thanks to microblading. This procedure can help you have thick, defined, well-arched, or slim, straight, fluffy brows and natural-looking eyebrows.. All styles and outcomes are possible with Perfect Definition!

In our ultimate guide to microblading eyebrows, we will thoroughly explain everything you need to know about this popular cosmetic procedure.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of cosmetic permanent makeup or as it's often referred to: semi-permanent makeup where the pigment particles are placed in the skin of an eyebrow area, giving it the appearance of real hairs. You will also come across names like: Realism, Hyper Realism, Ultra Realism, Natural or 3D Hairstrokes, Embroidery, Nano Brows, Nano Blading.

A Permanent Makeup Artist uses a microblade—a handheld tool with very fine needles— to draw each outline of hair and deposit the correct colour pigment in the skin. The colour effect will help provide the look of fuller brows.

Who is a Suitable Candidate for Microblading?

If you suffer from brow hair loss and want to make them appear fuller and thicker or just restore what was lost, you should visit certified and licensed technician, Permanent Makeup Artist to discuss eyebrow treatments.

Please note that during the consultation, El Truchan, multi - award winning London permanent makeup artist will assess your medical history and skin type to determine whether you are a good candidate for microblading. Unfortunately, our London offering may not be right for you if you:

What to Expect During the Microblading Eyebrows Procedure

The actual microblading treatment consists of several steps. Here's what to expect:

Step 1: Preparation

On the day of the procedure, you can voice out any questions or concerns you have with your Permanent Makeup Artist and voice any questions or concerns. The Permanent Makeup Artist will also explain the microblading procedure and the options, including microblading, colour and style. Also, the artist will remove the stray hair if necessary and clean your skin.

Step 2: Numbing

Before the procedure starts, the Permanent Makeup Artist will cover your brow area using a topical numbing ointment. This can help reduce discomfort during the procedure

Step 3: Measuring, Mapping, Design

Your makeup artist will measure certain features of your brow area and design the brow shape, taking into account your face shape. They’ll show you a pre-draw of what your brows will look like after the treatment. You will work with your technician to assure you are both happy with the shape.

Step 4: Blading Process

Your Permanent Makeup Artist will create finely shaped strokes through the skin using a microblade and then covers them with a customized colour pigment. For better retention, they can add another layer of pigment. Depending on your skin, you can get more than two passes. The procedure visit can take up to 2 hours, the actual treatment takes about 30 minutes.

Step 4: Recovery

After the procedure, you may feel a soreness in the brow area. You may also experience mild swelling and redness although very unlikely unless your skin is very sensitive. The Permanent Makeup Artist will give you aftercare instructions. Some of the treatments post care include:

  • Application of the healing balm / moisturizing ointment application

  • Avoid exposing your brows to too water for 12 days

  • Avoid putting makeup on the brow area while it is healing

  • Don’t pick at the scabs

  • Avoid tanning or contact with direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks

  • Avoid using chemical peels or facial scrubs near the brows for at least 6 weeks

  • Avoid heavy sweating for at least 9 days, but you can do other forms of exercises.

How Long Will Your Semi-Permanent Eyebrows Last?

Your fuller eyebrows can last for about 1-3 years but annual Colour Boost Maintenance visits are recommended to maintain the same colour intensity. Some things that can affect the longevity of your microbladed eyebrows include:

  • Aftercare Routine: How you take care of your skin during recovery

  • Skincare Routine: Some cosmetic products speed up the fading

  • Skin Type: If you have dry skin, your brows can last longer

  • Touch Ups: Regular appointments can improve longevity of the results

Factors to Consider Before Getting Microblading Services

Just like other beauty treatments, microblading has possible risks associated with it. Below are some tips to ensure the treatment gives you the results you desire.

Do Research

Carefully research the Permanent Makeup clinic or Aesthetic Clinic in your area and choose the one with highly-skilled and licensed practitioner. Never go to an untrained, uncertified artist. You don’t want to endure the additional costs of correcting poorly done semi-permanent eyebrows.

Allergic Reaction (we patch test in advance or scratch test on the day).

Allergic reactions to pigments used  for microblading are rare but can happen. we use best quality pigments approved for use in UK to assure any risk is as low as can be. Therefore it’s important to ask your makeup artist about the types of pigment they’ll use and how they confirm allergies. Some artists conduct a patch test to determine whether you are allergic to a pigment or not.

Infection ( if you follow the correct aftercare instructions provided by us, the risk of infection is removed).

Since the microblading procedure breaks the skin, you face a serious risk for transmissions of infectious diseases, like bacterial skin infections and HIV. That’s why you must ensure your practitioner uses single use needles/blades and always opens the tools in front of you.

Microblading, Nanoblading, 3D Natural Hairstroke, Ultra / Hyper Realism Brows also known as Feathering

This is one of the most requested brow treatments in Permanent Cosmetics, it involves tattooing/ micro or nano blading imitation hairstrokes to imitate natural brow hairs.

Manly Man Brows / Male Eyebrows Microblading

Male Eyebrows! Microblading, Nanoblading, 3D Hairstroke, Ultra / Hyper Realism Eyebrows is not just for the ladies! You might be surprised, but a lot of men also look for solutions to thinning, sparse or uneven eyebrows so that they will still look natural and 'manly'. I can help with that. The bespoke hairstroke treatment for men can help you achieve the fuller, denser, more even brow look, so please do get in touch.

Combination Brows ( Strokes & Microshading)

As the name suggests it’s a combination of a hairstroke and gentle micro shading to achieve more defined results.

Powder , Ombre, Invisi, Microshaded Brows

Soft and subtle, can also be dense, depending on desired outcome. Soft powder or an eyebrow pencilled look, perfect for most eyebrows, adding definition to thinning, sparse or full eyebrows.

Brows for Blondes

Blond Eyebrows Microblading, Nanoblading, 3D Hairstroke, Ultra / Hyper Realism also known as Feathering!

If you are a natural blond and been struggling to define, fill or correct the shape of your blonde eyebrows than this would be a treatment for you. Thick, dark, defined eyebrows may be very fashionable, but it is not a look that suits those with fair hair and light eyebrows. Pencils are usually too dark, which makes the application difficult and painstaking. This Semi-Permanent treatment defines and/or reshapes eyebrows with a fair pigment to match your hair.

Power Brows

This combines hairstrokes with intense colour techniques to produce a more powerful brow style. The Power Brow is a much defined, continuous look with the very fashion forward designers who regularly feature thick eyebrow shapes at their fashion shows, models such as Cara Delevingne showcasing defined, thick eyebrow on the catwalk. However, it's not just the fashion insiders who are looking to achieve a thicker, heavier brow shape in line with the recent beauty trend. This look can be suitable for many people from different backgrounds and cultures. For example, it can be very complementary to Arabic, Middle-Eastern facial features.

Every client is given a personalised advice before the treatment depending on a person’s features. People with large eyes and plenty of space between the eye and the brow are best suited for the fuller brow look. A fuller brow would overpower someone with delicate, small, gentle features, in such case we can tailor the look accordingly, we could create slightly darker eyebrows with more depth which is still in line with current trends but doesn't overpower the persons face.
